A Letter to all expectant and new mothers from Dr. Lou
Q. Does my newborn really need a Chiropractic check-up? A. Yes!
In our Clifton community and elsewhere, we know of no greater joy than the birth of a happy healthy baby!
You may be aware that a majority of our practice at The Chiropractic Center is dedicated to family, and especially infant and pediatric care. But as a Chiropractor I am often times confronted with the fact that many new parents, even if they have visited a chiropractor themselves, are simply not informed about the importance of a chiropractic check-up for their newborn child. We know that the birth process, even under the best circumstances can be potentially traumatic to the baby. Specifically, the neck can be misaligned as the infant is compressed and pushed down the birth canal. The twisting and pulling of the baby’s head and neck occurs in either a natural birth or C section delivery. These forces from the birth process cause nerves to be stressed and vertebra to get misaligned causing a neurological disturbance called a subluxation. This interruption of nerve flow of can lead to health complications. Therefore, a chiropractic check-up is one of the most important things we can do to prevent common childhood problems like colic, respiratory distress, ear infections and allergies. In fact, a study published in the Journal for Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics by Philips, N.J. demonstrated a 93% improvement in cases of ear infection while under chiropractic treatment, 75% within days.
Ideally newborn infants should be checked for subluxation soon after birth. Only Chiropractors are trained to detect and correct subluxations. I can personally attest to the importance of early chiropractic care in not only avoiding many common childhood health problems but also in experiencing an overall high level of vitality. My 2 boys now ages 9 and 10 have been under regular Chiropractic care since they were born. They go the pediatrician once a year for a check up, they rarely catch a cold and if they do are usually over it in a few days. They have never had an ear infection. They are smart, well adjusted, (pun intended) creative, clear thinkers. I tell you this not because I want you to think we are special but because I want you to know that this should be the normal for every child. Unfortunately for many, multiple trips to the doctor, ear infections, poor immunity, multiple rounds of antibiotics and other medications throughout the year has become the “normal” we hear about.
We all want our children to grow up smart, happy and healthy. We invite you to experience the benefits of a clear functioning nervous system too. An initial check-up for your baby, you and the rest of your family is on us, no charge. Just call the office when you are ready. We look forward to helping your family maintain extraordinary health!
